Warner Norcross Attorney Appointed to State Environmental Committee
Troy Cumings, an attorney with the law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been appointed to the newly created Environmental Advisory Rules Committee.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI, July 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Troy Cumings, an attorney with the law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been appointed to the newly created Environmental Advisory Rules Committee.

Cumings, who focuses his practice on government affairs and environmental law, is one of 12 Michigan business and government leaders to be appointed to the EARC by the Office of Regulatory Reinvention. The committee is designed to assist in identifying duplicative, obsolete, unnecessary or unduly restrictive environmental rules.

"The Environmental Advisory Rules Committee will help identify onerous rules that are hurting job creation, while not providing much social benefit," said Steve Hilfinger, Michigan's chief regulatory officer and director of the ORR. "This committee has many diverse perspectives - we have representatives from utilities, environmental groups, and manufacturers, as well as environmental lawyers and local officials. This is a highly talented group that I am confident will make strong recommendations to make Michigan's regulatory system more efficient and effective."

The EARC will evaluate more than 2,600 rules enacted by the Department of Environmental Quality on a variety of factors, including health and safety benefits, compliance costs and others. The committee will submit findings and recommendations to the Office of Regulatory Reinvention, which will make final recommendations to Gov. Rick Snyder.

Cumings has extensive experience counseling clients and developing legislation regarding environmental, natural resources and brownfield matters. He practices in Grand Rapids and Lansing.
