Public Voting to be Held May 20 for Legacy Trust Award Collection
The public is invited to cast its ballots on Friday, May 20, to determine the top three vote-getters in the Second Annual Legacy Trust Award Collection, a statewide competition for adult artists with disabilities.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI, May 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The public is invited to cast its ballots on Friday, May 20, to determine the top three vote-getters in the Second Annual Legacy Trust Award Collection, a statewide competition for adult artists with disabilities.
Voting will be held at the Civic Theatre in downtown Grand Rapids from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The public will be able to see - and then cast up to three votes on - the work of Michigan artists who submitted original works of art to the competition, including painting, photography and mixed-media sculpture. The winning artists will receive cash prizes and will be registered in ArtPrize 2011.
Artists and their families, many of whom will be present during the voting, will be honored during a private reception. Results will be announced on Monday, May 23, and posted on the VSA (www.vsagr.org) and Legacy Trust (www.legacygr.com) websites.
The Legacy Trust Art Collection is being co-sponsored by Legacy Trust and VSA Michigan-Grand Rapids. Once the LTA Collection winners are announced, Legacy Trust and VSA will finalize details for an ArtPrize venue and work with each of the artists to promote their submissions.
"We are both pleased and gratified at such an excellent response to the Second Annual Legacy Trust Award Collection," said William Walker, president and CEO of Legacy Trust. "Many returning artists from last year, as well as new artists from across the state, have submitted their work, which will be professionally displayed at the Civic on Friday. We are delighted to be able to partner with VSA to provide greater opportunities for artists with disabilities to showcase their talents and to participate more fully in the community dialogue created by ArtPrize."
The call for submissions went out in early March, closing May 9. Eighteen artists from throughout the state have registered for the competition and are submitting original artwork in a variety of media.
ArtPrize, an international art competition in Grand Rapids decided solely on a public vote, returns to Grand Rapids Sept. 21-Oct. 9. Part arts festival and part social dialogue, Art Prize attracted submissions from more than 1,200 artists around the globe - and tens of thousands of supporters from around the globe.
