Gov. Rick Snyder to Visit Hudsonville Ice Cream
When Gov Rick Snyder hits the streets of Holland with his broom on Wednesday, he will be able to thank Hudsonville Ice Cream for an extra burst of energy.
HOLLAND, MI, May 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When Gov Rick Snyder hits the streets of Holland with his broom on Wednesday, he will be able to thank Hudsonville Ice Cream for an extra burst of energy.
The Governor, who is slated to be in town for Tulip Time festivities, will begin his day with a tour of Hudsonville Ice Cream - and a taste of a new flavor created specially in his honor. While Hudsonville officials remain tight-lipped about the name and ingredients, Hudsonville Director of Sales Bruce Kratt promises that it will resonate with the Governor's promise to reinvent Michigan.
Holland Mayor Kurt Dykstra will be joining the Governor for the HIC tour, as will Attorney General Bill Schuette, Michigan Department of Agriculture Director Keith Creagh and Deputy Agriculture Director Gordon Wenk.
Gov. Snyder's tour of Hudsonville Ice Cream at 345 E. 48th Street in Holland will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 10 a.m. The tour is open to the media. It is the first stop on his tour of Holland, which also includes attending the Tulip Time Festival Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. and leading the street crew at the annual Volksparade, which begins at approximately 1:15 p.m.
Hudsonville Ice Cream's own Drill Team will also be marching in the Volksparade - although they will have ice cream scoops, rather than brooms.
"We are thrilled to welcome Gov. Snyder to Holland for a day - and some great ice cream - that will be pure Michigan," Kratt said. "Long before the tourism campaign made it cool to be in Michigan, we were using farm-fresh milk and cream from Ottawa County, specialized confections from Wayne County, tree-ripened cherries from Grand Traverse County, honey from Saginaw County - and the list goes on across the state.
"It is our firm belief that our competitive advantage lies right here in the Mitten, where we have invested in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and have a world-class workforce. We look forward to sharing our story with Gov. Snyder and his team, along with some great ice cream."
Hudsonville Ice Cream has been churning out great ice cream since 1926 and still uses some of the same recipes that first made it a household name in West Michigan. Kratt said that the Company has posted double-digit increases in sales over the past three years as it expanded into Detroit and Chicago. The first Hudsonville Ice Cream made-in-Michigan premium ice creams will be shipped to stores in Wisconsin and Minnesota in the coming weeks.
Hudsonville Ice Cream will introduce its new flavors for spring and summer on May 17.
"If an old-fashioned, 85-year-old company can reinvent itself to become one of fastest growing ice cream companies in the United States, then there seems to be a whole lot of logic that our state has a high likelihood for success during its era of 'reinvention,' " Kratt said.
