Michigan Author Encourages People to Get Healthy, Happy and Financially Secure
A Detroit area counselor, frustrated by years of seeing overwhelming health and money issues in her clients, publishes book aimed at preventing similar problems in others.
CHESTERFIELD, MI November 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After years of counseling homebound senior citizens and getting frustrated by seeing the same issues emerge, Linda Savoyard decided to take action. The Michigan resident recently authored a book in hopes of helping others to avoid similar pitfalls as they age. The book, published by Infinity Publishing, is entitled Mid-Life Makeover: Getting Healthy, Happy and Financially Secure in the Second Half of Life.
"As a counselor, the two biggest problems I've run across in my clients are money and health - both physical and mental. Over the years, I've also identified patterns in four other critical areas: purpose, spirituality, attitude and connectedness," explains Savoyard. Mid-Life Makeover is a unique and practical hands-on guide for those who wish to improve their lives in any of these areas. While most of the book covers specific preventive strategies, it also includes a mix of real-life examples, clever quotations, illustrations, poetry and exercises.
Current statistics stress the need for such a book and reflect what Savoyard has seen in her clients. Nearly half the population is chronically ill, one-third are obese and over 23 million Americans are diabetic. Anti-depressants are the most prescribed drugs in the U. S. On the financial front, the news is just as troubling. One third of those over 55 have less than $25,000 in their investments. A whopping 56% of all divorces are the result of financial difficulties. Every 13 seconds someone falls victim to foreclosure.
Mid-Life Makeover is not a typical self-help book that simply aims to make people feel better about their problems. Instead its focus is on prevention and problem-solving, understandable since Savoyard's background is in engineering. After earning an engineering degree from the University of Michigan in 1982, she began her career with Chrysler. Her current part-time schedule there allows her to pursue her interest in counseling.
Savoyard is a board-certified Licensed Professional Counselor with Masters degrees in Counseling and Business Administration. As an experienced college instructor, corporate trainer, and professional speaker, she frequently holds seminars on life skills topics. She is currently promoting her new book in a series of speaking engagements.
