ANN ARBOR, MI, July 15, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- An Ann Arbor veterinary hospital has opened its virtual doors to the world with a lively and dynamic blog that has won hundreds of fans—locally, nationally and around the planet.
Westarborblog.com is the brainchild of Rick Ratliff, founder of Ann Arbor-based Ratliff Interactive, and it chronicles daily life at Westarbor Animal Hospital, 6011 Jackson Avenue, a popular local veterinary facility for more than three decades.
"We have been taking our dog for five years to Westarbor," Ratliff said. "It always seems like such a caring and happy place, and I wanted to help other people share that experience."
With pictures and videos of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens as they come and go from the facility, the blog is sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always entertaining.
Blog items are mostly written and photographed by Gale Marcoux, a technician at the hospital who has a talent for writing and a background in marketing, but the blog also enables the veterinarians at the facility to get online and warn customers about such things as pet food product recalls or developing pet health concerns.
Westarborblog.com also features the latest news from the veterinary world, videos about animal care, and links to useful web sites as well as links to the hospital's existing web site.
The results have created a flurry of interest amongst existing clients, potential clients and the world outside Ann Arbor. More than 1,000 people are visiting the blog on a monthly basis, and while the vast majority of them are within a quick drive of Ann Arbor, the site is also being visited by animal lovers across the country and people in Europe, Asia and South America.
Now a viral effect is taking over. Increasingly, clients of Westarbor are submitting their own photos and information for the blog. People are positing links to the blog from their own web sites and Facebook pages, following its Twitter feed and emailing their friends encouraging them to visit the site.
Dr. James Clarkson, head veterinarian at Westarbor says he is proud of the way the project is affecting the attitudes of his clients and his staff.
"The blog is helping to create a family feeling," he said. "I think we have only begun to see the potential of this thing."
